so far this site has confirmed that the smart is much safer than a suzuki little suv and a ford focus and a little ford suv. Unless I have a freak accident with a gigantic 300lb tree branch, in which case I would even be impailed with my silverado whose roof was crushed by a 3 story aluminum ladder half folded maybe 70lbs. Thank you for your time and effort I might buy a smart car now and put a turbo on it.

Yep, this is a Smart, but it’s not in a wreck. That “thing” sticking out the top of the roof is a Google Streetview Camera, used to take continuous pictures of every house on the planet. One of my friends has one sticking out of his Toyota and is on the road every day, somewhere. This car was VANDALIZED, not in a wreck. They picked it up and set it on its back because the engine and tranny are in back. I can almost pick mine up in the front and it would only take 3 guys to do this VANDALISM to a smart.

Sorry Larry but you are wrong. This is a traffic enforcement car in the London borough of Enfield.
It cruises around and takes photos of cars in bus lanes, people driving on their mobile phone, people not wearing seat belts etc.
In this particular scenario the traffic enforcement car pulled into the train station car park but didn’t realise there was a height restriction bar. You can see it bent on the right.£150 and it was all OK again.

You wouldn’t put a baby in these things… smart or not, any parent knows that you can’t put a child in a rear-facing seat in the front seat of a car… and I wouldn’t put a toddler in the front of this, or any car, particularly with airbags. (which I’m not sure if this has, but an accident I saw with a smart about a month ago had air-bag-deployment, so I would figure all smarts would be equipped?)

The airbags only work if you are over 80 pounds and it has everything needed for any child and is as safe as any other car you should do your research before opening your mouth.

Got my full coverage insurance renewal from State Farm, last week for another 6 months. Low deductable collision was only $140 ($280/year). Smart must have a horrible insurance record for it to be this LOW…..(c;]

What kind of moron are you, to start a website about a particular car, then fill it with pictures that are NOT of that car? Do you just go around looking for pictures of small cars in wrecks and throw them in? Or do you take other moron’s word for it that a car is a smart, without even doing things like counting doors, or lug nuts? I hope you’re doing this for a grade in school, and your teachers sees how ignorant you are, and gives you an appropriate grade.

The other car, a Ford Focus, T-boned the smart car at 30-35 mph. Other driver was taken to hospital wth a broken hand …his Focus was totaled. The driver of the smart car had a selt belt bruise and small cuts from broken glass. He was picked up from the scene of the accident and went home. The smart car was repaired and is still in working fine today.

Since someone brought up Darwin, I’d like to mention that’s exactly why I love Smart Cars. I am tired of leftwing fundamentalists forcing their green religion down my throat and using guilt and shame to bully legislators into imposing this religion onto me (A religion that most of the followers don’t even follow). With environmentalists being gullible and scientifically ignorant people, I’d actually rather they weren’t breeding and further polluting our gene pool, and products like this are a great way to thin out the herd. Unfortunately they aren’t effective enough.
